Klebsiella pneumoniae

Klebsiella pneumoniae is a Gram-negative, non-motile, encapsulated, lactose fermenting, facultative anaerobic, rod shaped bacterium found in the normal flora of the mouth, skin, and intestines
1.UTI specially in patient treat with Ampicilline
2.wound infection
4. pneumonia
lab diagnosis:
specimen:according to site of infection[urine, sputum,wound swab blood]p
macroscopic examination for urine, wond swab ,CSF.
gram stain :gram-ve rod [short and thick]

wet prepration:non motile
capsule stain:capsulated

spore stain :non spore forming
aeration :facultative anaerobic
incubation period :24
1:inMacConkey:larg,mucoid,pink,and lactose fermentre colonies.

2: blood agar:larg,mucoid,white to grey and non heamolytic colonies

3:CLED:yellow and lactose fermentre colonies.
biochemical test:
indole -ve
urease +ve [weak]
citrate +ve
MR -ve
VP +ve
catalase +ve
oxidase -ve
sensitivity test:
Klebsiella is natural resistance to ampicillin
